| ok i'm sorry for not posting for so long ---if there's even anybody reading......
if there is, believe me you are greatly appreciated! now lemme tell you about my new job. first of all, let's review: i'm still not moved out of my house and the drive up here is killer, i had pulled my back out TWICE in early august filling huge bags and taking them to storage in the southern heat and my knee wouldn't stop hurting. i just wasn't motivated. and living with my mom is quite another story i will have to tell you about later. i got here on the 9th of august and started work on the 13th. one of the guys that i was supposed to be working with aka making sure he got something done, had quit. i, of course, got his computer WOOHOO my big 21 inch screen is cool. i have to remember things look bigger on it and so same resolution at home is much smaller. gotta design with that in mind from now on. ok so he's got lots o' programs on there, some of which he deleted NO BIG we all know i'm the software whore so i'm up and runnin' in no time. there's tons of shit installed on there. now this attorney hired me to get something done on the website. while i was packing etc he got some college student, who i now realized just graduated from high school, to flat code a bunch of sites, using what he thinks were "includes" AND FRAMES into one big fucking mess, which i now have to deal with because he paid for it so he wants to get some fricken use out of it before we dump it. HOWEVER he wants to make a brochure based on the website and send out a 200-300 piece mailng to target clients (who are new technology/software companies nonetheless), and, like it or not, when people go to the site, they will surely leave without filling out the form because the site looks like crap. now, i designed a template last week, which he didn't like. then me & this other atty were supposed to work on the site friday & monday, but low and behold on friday night he (boss) comes to my desk and says he hates everything and to stop working on it. then monday i work my ass off but he decides he wants gears. so i stop what i'm doing and try to put some gears in there. it looks like all hell and i increase the stroke of 3 concentric circles to like 15 or some wild shit just to cover the rough edges of the splice.....and of course when he sees THAT, he's definitely not happy. he didn't understand i was in the process of doing something, not making a presentation to him with my finished work. ANYWAY i worked at home and came up with these gears (note: i had to spend like 2-3 hours touching up this photo for use -- AT HOME without being paid). ok so i finish the new site before he comes in and i'm all proud of myself because it looks good and i'm proud of it. i would even show it to cocky. that's how good i'm feeling about myself. so he comes in and i show him, or he noses over to my desk more like (which is ok) and he says he wants to use the green site. i'm like so insulted. so i said something or other and he totally goes off on how he paid "Fred" 18 hundred dollars to do this other site and we're going to use it. i told him he wasted his money and "that wasn't my fault." he proceeded to get on the phone for a while then call a meeting with me and another guy there to talk about the site. this other guy's job apparently is to surf the internet, chat on IM and listen to MP3s all day. oh yeah, and go get stuff to eat. i made the comment that someone told me their dog threw up something that looked better than the website and i guess that wasn't a good thing to say. you have to realize that this is a start-up thing and if it doesn't make money neither do i. i feel like the whole future of this business is depending on me, because if that site looks bad when people go there, they will just click somewhere else. and besides, i know what to do. i know what needs to be done. but he won't let me do it. he's so ...???? backwards maybe? he hired me to build websites and that comes with a fair amount of consulting. unless he's got a design team or internet specialist or director of the website department, then i'm basically the expert there. and i'm being treated like a 12-yr-old. in fact i bet a 12-yr-old could build a better website on geocities. i haven't taken a lunch break since i've been there, and i stay the extra hour anyway (even though i was told it would be 7-3:30 i stay 7-4). last week he came by my desk twice and kept me til 4:20, which mean i don't get home til around 6. i only have to drive 10 miles or so to get the kids, then drive home, but the traffic is unthinkable. and he paid some ainhole 1800 bucks to fuck up my life, and i make a site that kicks its ass IN ONE DAY and i get shit for it. how about 1800 dollars, hmmmm? i got so upset i couldn't even think. i kept looking at the same piece of paper and my screen, trying to see whether i had made the corrections or not, and i was so shook up i couldn't even tell. talk about corporate america stifling my creativity!!! WWJD - what would jerry do? tell me what you think: please take the survey to the right and please be honest. or you can email me your comments. THANK YOU!!! |
